Careers at IGS: Durham

At IGS: Durham, we believe it is important for pupils to learn about the wide range of opportunities available to them in the future. Throughout the year, we regularly welcome visitors from a variety of professions to talk to our pupils about their careers, the routes they took and the skills and qualifications involved.

Our pupils have heard from people working in a fantastic range of careers, including a maintenance technician, accountant, play therapist, dance teacher, architect, a member of the Royal Navy and a scientist working in haematology.

We have also welcomed Medical Mavericks into school, giving pupils an exciting hands-on introduction to careers in healthcare. Pupils were able to try medical equipment including an ECG, ultrasound equipment and blood pressure monitors.

Pupils have also had the opportunity to step inside an aircraft cockpit, gaining a pilot’s-eye view of the flight deck and bringing the possibilities of a career in aviation to life.

By giving pupils opportunities to meet people from different professions and take part in practical experiences, we aim to broaden their aspirations, introduce them to future pathways and encourage them to think positively and ambitiously about their futures.
