Our Local Community

At IGS: Durham, we are proud to be part of the Esh Winning community and believe it is important for our pupils to understand the value of helping others, caring for their surroundings and making a positive contribution to their local area.

Caring for Our Environment 🌱

Our Environment After School Club regularly takes part in litter picking around Esh Winning. This weekly activity encourages pupils to take responsibility for their surroundings, work together and take pride in keeping their local community clean and tidy.

Learning from Our Community 🐑

We enjoy welcoming members of the local community into school. Recently, a local farmer brought his sheep to visit our younger pupils, who were able to learn about the animals and even have a go at feeding them!

We have also formed links with the Esh Winning community gardening group, who visited school to deliver an assembly about gardening, looking after green spaces and how our pupils can help care for their local area.

Supporting Local Families ❤️

Each year, our school community comes together during Harvest Festival to donate food and essential items. These donations are given to a local food bank, helping to support individuals and families within our wider community.

Christmas in the Community 🎄

Every year, we take part in the Esh Winning Christmas Light Switch-On. Our school choir performs alongside other local schools, giving our pupils a wonderful opportunity to represent IGS: Durham and join the community in celebrating the festive season.

Through these activities and partnerships, we aim to help our pupils become kind, responsible and community-minded young people. We are proud of our links with Esh Winning and look forward to continuing to strengthen them in the years ahead.
