At IGS: Durham, we place great importance on enriching children’s learning through a wide range of educational visits and trips. We believe that learning beyond the classroom helps to bring the curriculum to life, deepen understanding and create lasting memories.

Over the years, our pupils have enjoyed visiting many exciting destinations, including Beamish Museum, Adventure Valley, The Life Centre, Newcastle Castle, Hamsterley Forest, The Gala Theatre, Sunderland Empire, Seaburn Beach, the Discovery Museum and the Hancock Museum, among many others. These experiences allow children to explore history, science, geography, art and culture in real-world contexts, making their learning meaningful and memorable.

In addition to day trips, we are proud to offer an annual residential visit to Derwent Hill for pupils in Years 3–8. This week-long experience is packed with outdoor adventure activities designed to develop teamwork, resilience, independence and confidence. Children take part in a variety of challenges in a safe and supportive environment, often pushing themselves beyond what they thought they could achieve.

These opportunities are a much-loved part of school life and play a vital role in developing curiosity, confidence and a sense of adventure in all our pupils.
